Once upon a time, some science fiction fans decided to bid for a Denver Worldcon. They decided to run for 2008. So, they bought the denver2008.com domain.
A few years later, Democratic fans decided to bid for a National Democratic Convention in Denver. They also chose 2008. But the denver2008.com domain was already purchased. By "a group that thinks farther into the future than politicians."
The Democrats, while they may have wanted the site, chose not to buy it. Instead, a local newspaper made Denvention 3 an offer we could not refuse. So Denvention 3 has sold denver2008.com.
