SMOFcon Photo Album - Master Index

SMOFcon is the convention for convention runners.

SMOFcon (Secret Masters Of Fandom Convention) was started in 1983 by Joe Siclari, Ben Yalow and Theresa Renner. Each of them represented one of the groups bidding for the 1986 Worldcon -- Atlanta, New York and Philadelphia respectively. Recognizing that most of the members of the committees bidding for the Worldcon did not have much experience working on a convention that large, Joe Siclari suggested that a seminar-type convention might be useful. The first SMOFcon was held to pass along knowledge from previous convention runners to new or prospective conrunners. SMOFcon 1 was held at a "neutral" site, Washington D. C.

SMOFcon 1 (originally named ConCon) was successful enough that other fannish groups have bid to bring it to their area each year since.

There were at least two eo-SMOFcons and several areas now run local variants of SMOFcon to train their convention staff.

In the collection of photographs that follows there are many faces that are not known to the current custodians. If you recognize or more people in a photo that have not been mentioned in that photo's caption, or you know who the photographer was, please use the form that has been provided with the photo to identify that individual or individuals. Information about what was happening in a photo would also be appreciated if it is not included in the photo's caption. Thank you.

When you get to a photo that you may want to copy to your system simply click on the photo and then use your browser to save the image file. Clicking on the photo will give you a clean copy of the image file without the caption and other text that makes up the Web page. Because many of these photos may be copyrighted by the photographer or by other parties, care must be taken in their use for other than strictly personal enjoyment.
