RAP RESIGNS Z-D:

BUYS CLARK PUBS

Raymond A. Palmer, former fan and for years editor of AMAZING STORIES and FANTASTIC ADVENTURES, today announced to representatives of The Cinvention Daily that he had severed all connections with Ziff-Davis Publishing Company, effective September 7th.

FORMER MILWAUKEE FAN

Active in the Milwaukee Fictioneers prominent early group of fans and authors, Ray took the helm of Ziff-Davis's science-fiction magazines early in 1938 and built its circulation to heights which the publishers say are unequaled by any other magazine in the field. In May of 1939 he launched a companion magazine to AMAZING STORIES:FANTASTIC ADVENTURES. Both magazines are still flourishing, and it was from the editorship of these two that Ray has resigned.

In the first part of 1948 a new publishing company was formed. It's activities included publication of FATE Magazine, a pocket-size publication devoted to non-fictional accounts of unexplained mysteries. Ray Palmer was interested in the sort of material used by this publishing house, and supplied some of the material for the magazine.

PURCHASES CLARK PUBS

Together with his announcement of resignation from Ziff-Davis, Mr. Palmer revealed that he has recently purchased the Clark Publishing House, and will become the editor of FATE, effective with the January 1950 issue.

At the same time, the long-anticipated science-fiction magazine, OTHER WORLDS, published by the same company, was exhibited by him to The Cinvention Daily editors with the information that this initial issue has just appeared on the newsstands.

SHAVERTALE LEADS ISH

A full-color cover by Malcolm Smith illustrates the lead novel, " The Fall of Lemuria" by Richard S. Shaver, the original painting of which was donated by Ray to the Cinvention Committee for the auction, as well as the interiors -- all of which were done by Malcolm Smith.

The contents of the first issue other than the Shaver story, are:

"Where no Foot Walks" by G. H. Irwin
"Seven Come A'Lovin' " by Craig Browning
"Venus Trouble-Shooter" by John Wiley
"The Miracle of Elmer Wilde" by Rog Phillips

GRAHAM REFUSES COMMENT

Asked for comment on Ray's change of jobs, Roger P. Graham ( Rog Phillips) pondered over the question, then came up with the amazing comment:

"No statement!"

Meanwhile fandom looks forward with interest to see what -- if any -- changes will appear in FATE and OTHER WORLDS under Palmer's leadership, and whether they will repeat the rise of AMZ and FA under RAP's capable editing.

Editorship of AMAZING and FANTASTIC ADVENTURES now falls to Howard Browne.
