CAMPBELL AWARD FOR EGAN
Greg Egan's Permutation City has won the Centre for the Study of
Science Fiction's John W. Campbell Award. In addition, Greg's
Hugo—nominated story "Cocoon" topped Novelette Category in the Asimov's
9th Annual Readers' Poll. The latter was announced in the September '95
Asimov's which features Greg's story " Luminous". Meanwhile, Lucy
Sussex reports "Cathy Tasker, the editor who was behind the Harper
Collins (oz) Moonstone imprint of juvenile sf, has been sacked. What
this does to the list I dunno. She can't have gone because of the sales
figures, because the books haven't been out very long."

WORKSHOPPERS COLLABORATE
Lucy Sussex reports "Cupid, though he sometimes shoots slowly, shoots
surely. Writers Philippa Maddern and Ted Mundie are getting married
twenty years to the month after their first meeting, at the workshop run
by Ursula Le Guin at the Worldcon, Melbourne, 1975. " My apologies, by
the way, for failing to note the recent marriage of Janine Webb to Jack
Dann.

LONEY RETURNS
Having spent a while in Washington D.C., working for unnameable
Australian government agencies, Mark Loney is returning to Australia,
via Ditto 8 (U.S. Fanzine Fan Convention). He'll be dropping in on
Melbourne in late November before taking up residence in Canberra.

ASSORTED FAN INFORMATION
Perry Middlemiss is enlisting support for the Timebinders Fan History
Project in Australia. The aim is to preserve old fanzines and fan
history on disk and in sites on the Internet. Gil Poznaski featured
extensively in an article on the Internet in The Age Saturday Extra
29/7/95. Among those lucky few off to The Scottish Convention are
Stephen Boucher, Becky Tully, Danny Heap, and GUFF winners Ian Gunn and
Karen Pender-Gunn, all of whom have been loaded down with promotional
materials for the Australia in '99 WorldCon bid.

CONVENTION INFORMATION
The ARCon Memory Book, being edited by Jean Weber, will feature a piece
by Ursula K. Le Guin. Jean says it's something in the way of a sequel to
her speech at Aussiecon in 1975.

WEB PAGES
Ibn Qirtaiba is the name of an SF fanzine new to the World Wide Web. It
covers both written and media SF and includes reviews, interviews, fiction
and feature articles. Issues 1 to 9, originally published in hard copy,
are currently available, and new issues exclusive to the Web are soon to
come. Submissions of articles or letters are welcome!
Ibn Qirtaiba is Netscape 1.2 enhanced and graphics-intensive. If you have
trouble accessing it at a reasonable speed, try turning off "auto load
images". If this still doesn't help, try visiting again in about the
middle of August, when the bandwidth of the magazine's current server will
be upgraded. Please contact Jeremy Malcolm
if you are willing to mirror Ibn Qirtaiba.
