Congratulations to Ian Gunn on winning the 1997 Fan Achievement Award
presented by this year's Corflu (The Annual Convention for fanzine fans
in the U.S.A.) for best fan artist. You never know, he might get a Hugo
yet (Nominations for this year's Hugos should be postmarked by April
1st to reach the Hugo Awards sub-committee by April 6th. If you haven't
nominated yet, it's probably too late.) The Fanwriter FAAN Award went
to DUFF candidate Andy Hooper (I gather that it was presented by
another DUFF candidate, Janice Murray). Andy & Victor Gonzales took the
fanzine FAAN Award for their zine Apparachik.

The new Tasmanian science fiction anthology ThylaXene is now available
in Melbourne (at least it is at Slow Glass Books.) It features"Adrift"
, "The Noog - a moral tale" and "Spaceman Cometh" by N.E. Doran; "4
a.m. Immortal ", "Femora Artifice ", "Search and Rescue ", "The Secret
Marriage ", "To Be A Freeman " and "The Valued Citizen " by Stuart
Newman and "ThylaXene - A History" by Craig Wellington. Alan Stewart
notes that Dance to the Sun by William Esrac will be published as a
Baen paperback in June 1997. A different version was serialised in
Tomorrow SF.

Lucy Sussex reviews Arthur C. Clarke's 3001:The Final Odyssey in The
Sunday Age 16/3/97. She manages to sneak in plugs for George Turner and
Greg Egan in the process. Shane Morrissey got another spot on 3LO in
connection with the Star Wars relaunch. Jack Dann notes that The Memory
Cathedral has received good reviews in Sydney's the North Shore Times
and in The West Australian. Race Matthews gets another political Letter
to the Editor into the Age 24/3/97.
Perry Middlemiss reports " This is to announce that Stephen Boucher has
been appointed head of the WSFS Division of Aussiecon Three. Roy
Ferguson and Justin Ackroyd will comprise the first cut of the Hugo
Awards sub-committee. In addition, Jack Herman from Sydney has agreed
to Chair the Business Meetings at the convention. It is expected that
an announcement of the Site Selection officer will be made soon."

Alan Stewart reports that the 1997 Dr Who Natcon will probably be held
in Melbourne later this year but that there are no confirmed details
yet.. He also mentions that the 1998 Dr Who Natcon - CSO will be at the
Brisbane Travelodge, Roma Street Station GoHs (provisional) Caroline
John, Geoffrey Beevers. Contact Trevor Gensch (07) 5499 0265
Susan Clarke reports "Medtrek 5's books were finally balanced and after
all the bills were paid, $1,000 each was raised for Juvenile Diabetes
and Mountains Family Support Group for Children with Learning
Difficulties. Both of them are smaller charities so the amount raised
has made a difference. Not too bad for just over 100 attendees and a
maximum of $70 membership (most joined at $40).
Phantasia in Penrith is starting a Sunday chat group which will appeal
to people further west of Parramatta. Contact
Graeme Batho and I are moving (when we sell the house at Faulconbridge)
That is going to be a real culture shock to people when the Hotel
Faulconbridge closes down. It is being replaced by the Hotel Warrimoo
which is currently being built (or negotiated to be built) at present
just three minutes walk from the railway station, bus stop and on the
Great Western Highway. Our current address is P O Box 517, Springwood
NSW 2777."
