BULLSHEET MEDIA WATCH
Lucy Sussex reviews Storm Constantine's Stealing Sacred Fire,
Terry Pratchett's Jingo and David Pringle's The Ultimate
Encyclopedia of Science Fiction in The Saturday Age 28/2/98
3LO featured the Science Works Star Trek Exhibit in its
Sunday Arts Program 1/3/98 Marina Sirtis, guest at the
Science Works opening, appeared on Bert Newton's "Good
Morning Australia" on 27th of February. The Melbourne Star
Observer features a front page article on the Science Works
Star Trek exhibit, including a quotation from Michael Jorden
from the MSFC.
The Executive Secretary of the Australian Press Council, Jack
Herman, was heard on 3LO defending a newspaper that had
published details of the Australian Prime Minister's holiday
location, including a map.
Terry Dowling reviews Fear Nothing Dean Koontz, The Rise of
Endymion Dan Simmons, The Book of D'ni Rand Miller and David
Wingrove and The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Science Fiction
David Pringle in The Weekend Australian March 7-8 1998.
Sophie Masson has a letter on the abortion debate in The
The Australian's Review of Books March 1998 has a futuristic
theme, and includes a detailed piece by Alan Olding on three
Damien Broderick books Theory and its Discontents, The Spike
and The White Abacus.
Tim Richards has taken over the Aussiecon Three Website,
which should be available RSN at
http://www.aussiecon3.worldcon.org but I keep getting an
error message when I try it. Having given up on any hope of
getting the Americans to send more copies of Progress Report
1, a reprint job has been done in Australia, and so anyone
who has joined Aussiecon Three but who has not received a
copy should get that Real Soon Now. Bev Hope has designed a
new flier, but it has not been seen yet. In the meantime, in
aus.sf, there has been some dissatisfaction expressed at
Aussiecon Three's low profile. Old-timer Leigh Edmonds has
delurked to support the committee.
Niall Doran reports on Thylacon 2 " George RR Martin (subject
to flight confirmation) is now a Guest of Honour alongside
Leanne Frahm, while Neil Gaiman will be an Honoured Guest.
The web page is under constant revision, and now includes
full prices, the banquet menu, and merchant information.
There is a registration form for the con, including hotel
bookings and prices. The 1998 DITMAR nomination form (web
version) will be updated very soon, while hard copies are
winging their ways to various SF bookshops & cons as I type.
The nomination deadline had been set as March 20, but has
been extended to April 4 to allow votes to be received from
attendees at conventions near that time (where they will
hopefully encounter nomination forms). Given the delay in
getting the forms out, this gives everyone a bit more time
