DITMAR NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN.
Nominations for The Ditmar Awards (Australian Science Fiction 
Achievement Awards) are now open. Nominations close March 24 2007. 
Any member of fandom can nominate, however only members of the 
Australian National SF Convention (Convergence 2. q.v. conventions) 
may vote. The Awards will be presented at Convergence 2. Works of 
science fiction, fantasy and horror (SF/F/H) are only eligible for 
nomination if: a) they were first published or released anywhere in 
the world in 2006;
and b) the nominee was an Australian citizen or permanent resident in 
2006.

ALLEN & UNWIN, Sydney, are looking for fantasy fans of Sara Douglas, 
Fiona McIntish, Robert Jordan, or Cecilia Dart-Thornton, to take part 
in a focus group on fantasy fiction to find out what you read, where 
you hear about new fantasy fiction, what you love, and who you tell 
about it. The focus group will be held on Thursday, 1 March 2007 6 - 
8.30pm, Crows Nest, NSW. A light supper will be served and, as a 
thank you for your valued participation, you will receive a selection

TEZUKA: The Marvel of Manga is an exhibition celebrating the life of 
Tezuka Osamu, who created over 700 manga titles during his lifetime 
including ASTROBOY, KIMBA THE WHITE LION and SPACE FIREBIRD. The 
exhibition, featuring original drawings and designs runs until 29th 
April, and features free showings of Anime films at 2pm and 7.15 pm 
on Wednesdays and 2pm on Sundays. (n.b as The National Gallery of 
Victoria is listed as a sponsor, this exhibit has either been to Vic, 
or is heading ther. Me check.)

JIM HENSON's Puppet Up (an uncensored variation of the muppets by the

part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Congratulations to ROBERT de FRIES, who played Spike Milligan (to 
Robbie Matthews' Harry Secombe) in the play Ying Tong last year. He 
won the Best Actor Leading Role In A Play category in the CAT

CONFLUX 4 (q.v. conventions) recently announced there will be "set 
up" only in their dealers room on Friday night. It will not be open 
to the public until Saturday morning. Tables are $130 fan and $195 
professional. (plus membership.) 
Any authors who have a story with BEN PAYNE at the moment and have 
tried to contact him in the past few weeks but haven't got a 
response, please try again as he's having e-mail difficulties. 

CLARION USA, an intensive writers workshop, has found a new home in 
the University of California, San Diego and will celebrate its 40th 
anniversary workshop from June 26 - August 3 this year. (Reported on

FIREFLY and SERENITY fans across the world will be holding 
fundraising events starting on June23 (Joss Whedon's birthday) to 
raise money and awareness for Women's Rights Advocacy 
Group, "Equality Now". Last year's events raised $65,000, and this 
year they're aiming at raising $100,000. (Reported on SF Crowsnest.)

PAUL COLLINS has just released "The Hiveborn", book 3 in the widely 
acclaimed children's SF Earthborn Wars Trillogy. Hardback copies can

PAUL COLLINS also recently announced he was getting back into 
publishing by launching Ford Street Publishing which will specialise 
in children's books (middle years to young adult). He already has 
several titles lined up from authors including Isobelle Carmody, Sean 
McMullen, Justin D'Ath and Alyssa Brugman. As an imprint of Hybrid 
Publishers, Ford Street Books will be distributed by Macmillan

COSMOS magazine has increased their payment for fiction to $AUD500, 
and increased wordcount to between 2000-4000 words. They only buy 7

TANGLE is a proposed new anthology seeking submissions of exciting,

interviews, fan contacts, directory managers, reporters, reviewers

PITCHING COMPETITION. Conspiracy II, the NZ NATCON.(q.v. conventions) 
are holding a pitching opportunity in conjunction with a "polish your 
pitch" panel being run at the convention by Marianne de Pierres and 
Rowena Cory Daniells. This is an opportunity for 5 authors of 
unpublished novel-length manuscripts and 5 screen-writers who have 
not had a screen credit to pitch to pitch their novel ideas to 
Stephanie Smith of Harper Collins, and their scripts to Mat Carter. 
The selected 10 pitchers are expected to be members of the 
convention BUT this can be organised authors know they've been 
accepted. (There is no guarantee that your material will be used if 
your pitch is successful.) This offer closes on 1st April, 2007, and 
winners will be contacted by 1st May.

DEATHS:
Australian rocker, BILLY THORPE, who, with his band The Aztecs, 
brought "Most People I Know (Think That I'm Crazy)" to a generation, 
passed away at St Vincent's hospital 28th February after suffering a 
massive heart-attack. 

ILL: 
ANDY PORTER, prominent American fan, Antipodean enthusiast and 
Bullsheet reader, was recently operated on for cancer and is said to 
be making a good recovery. (Thanks to Bruce Gillespie and Bill Burns 
for the updates )

TOLKIEN SEMINAR: 25th August, 2007. NSW Writers Centre, Rozelle, 
Sydney. As the first Tolkien seminar to be held outside the UK, this
