We’ll be a mile closer to the stars, so let’s show our stuff!
Denvention 3 is sponsoring a special award for costumes or full entries based on the convention"s theme "A Mile Closer to the Stars." Do you see yourself as climbing to the stars, flying to the stars, or being out there in the stars? Who are you? What is out there to go to? Will we all get there in our lifetimes?
We will limit the show to 50 entries due to limited space in the hall's back stage area. This is a new limit (it's lower than the limit previously published in Progress Report Three). Please preregister using our Online Masquerade Registration Form so that we can closely monitor the number of people expected in the Masquerade Green Room. Watch this page for changes to the entry limit.
To benefit all the entrants we will be using the normal division system so that young fen (those under 13 at the beginning of the convention) will only compete with each other, novices (those competing for the first time or having not won any ribbons for any costumes on stage) will only compete against each other, journeymen (those competing with one to three world class wins for any costumes on stage) will only compete against each other, and masters or craftsmen (those who are in the costuming and/or clothing business, or have three or more world class wins as a journeyman or any world class wins as a master or craftsman) will only compete against each other. Anyone may compete at a more difficult level and anyone may win Best in Show (and there have been novices who have won Best in Show). There will be detailed Workmanship judging in all divisions, so come show us your stuff!
Devention Toastmaster Wil McCarthy will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.

Pre-registration for the masquerade photo area is required. Send your request to dannylow@sonic.net before July 31st. An onsite pre-registration signup list will be available at the masquerade signup desk until all spaces are filled or 3PM Thursday, August 7th.
If you aren't going to be in the Masquerade, please volunteer to help. Never worked a Masquerade before? There's a first time for everything, so please come by and help. We need you.
The Masquerade will be held on Friday evening, starting --on time--at 7:30 pm. Yes, on time! The show will be held in the Wells Fargo Theatre in the Convention Center. There are 5,000 seats for the audience--so no lines please--and no waiting. We'll open the doors as early as humanly possible and there will be no problem finding a great view from the audience. We're looking forward to a World Class and fun Masquerade.
On-line Masquerade pre-registrations will be accepted until 12:01 am PDT August 6, 2008. Registrations will be accepted on-site at Denvention 3 until 10 am Friday, August 8, 2008. All entrants must check in at the Masquerade Registration Desk at the Colorado Convention Center before 10 am Friday, August 8, 2008. All persons appearing on stage must rehearse on stage during the day of Friday, August 8, 2008 as part of your assigned rehearsal time.
Denvention is also sponsoring a Costume Exhibit - we hope you'll consider loaning a costume for the exhibit!
